Mitigating Damage After a Storm | Narragansett, RI

8/5/2020 (Permalink)

Storm damage mitigation While we may not be there right away, you can start the mitigation process on your own to help aid in preventing secondary damage!

Although Tropical Storm Isaias didn't hang out in Rhode Island for too long, it did leave its mark. Thousands in RI are still without power and tons of trees are down. Typically after a storm like that, some people also experience water/storm damage at their Rhode Island homes and businesses.

Storm damage restoration experts can help you with the cleanup and restoration! While there are many many homes affected in the Rhode Island area, they might not arrive right away, but there are some steps you can take to help reduce any secondary damage!

Flooding

If your home or business was flooded due to the storm, avoid using any electrical devices. The only exception(s) to this may be your air conditioner or if you have any dehumidifiers to begin the drying process on your own. It won't do much if there's a ton of water, but every little bit helps!

If you can, grab any clothing or other items that you can hang up to dry, outside if you can! If you can access any furniture you can wipe / sop up any excess water on the surfaces.

Unsanitary water

Water from outside your home from a storm typically doesn't bring in the cleanest water. Some of it may be contaminated. If you have any doubts about the cleanliness of the water in your home, let the professionals handle it. We wouldn't want you to get sick in any way!!

Mold

Did you know, mold can begin to form in as little as 24-48 hours with the perfect conditions for growth??

If you notice any signs of mold, you should not handle that on your own. Mold should be handled by trained remediation professionals.

Do not turn on any fans or air conditioner if there are signs of mold. This can spread the mold spores throughout your home or business.

Once SERVPRO professionals arrive at your home for cleanup and restoration, you'll be in great hands! We're here in your community, here to help
