Before turning on your AC unit this summer in Cranston

As we all know well, the weather in New England can be unpredictable. One day you need a sweater and the next we're in shorts and t-shirts! Although summer isn't officially here in Rhode Island yet, we have been seeing some very warm days! Before you switch your AC unit to "ON" be sure you check the system!
By checking your system before using it, you can catch any possible problems before they can get worse. Always be sure you are preforming these checks and maintenance with the AC breaker switch "OFF"!
Check the condenser fan
This is the unit located outside. Remove any tarp or other covering you have on it.
Remove the grill that covers the fan, then clean the blades with a vacuum attachment or cloth.
Vacuum out the bottom of the condenser box to remove any leaves or other debris.
Be sure nothing is blocking the airflow. Trim away any vines or bushes if they are in the way
Check the coolant lines
The lines should be checked for any leaks. Damaged or leaking lines must be replaced by a professional HVAC contractor.
You should also check for proper insulation surrounding the coolant lines. If any insulation is damaged, you can remove and replace. Coolant pipe insulation can be found at your local hardware stores.
Electrical
Check the battery in your thermostat (If it is battery operated)
*Quick tip* Replace the batteries each year at the beginning of the season. This will make a good habit so you don't forget before the batteries have a chance to die.
It's a good practice to change the filter in your HVAC unit before the AC unit is turned on each year.
Checking for any imperfections, dings, crimping, or electrical faults before turning your appliances on for the season can save you in extensive repair bills and save you from running a broken appliance!
