Cranston Homeowner Tip - Patching Drywall Like a Pro

Have you had a hole in your wall covered up with a photo for 6 months? It's time to fix that hole and get rid of that "Live, Laugh, Love" photo frame you got at the dollar store. 

Here are the steps for basic drywall repairs: 

1. Cut a piece of drywall that will cover the hole.         Cut it in a square shape
2. Cut the damaged wall to fit the drywall patch
3. If there is no stud where you cut, attach a piece of wood to the remaining drywall on both sides.
4. Attach the patch! Use screws in all 4 corners, and make sure it is secure
5. To fill the gaps between the wall and patch. Use fiberglass mesh cut the size you need and cover the seams.
6. Apply several layers of joint compound.
   1. Each layer needs to dry before applying another.
7. Once the layers are built up enough, sand them down so they are even with the wall. Be sure there are no cracks or globs.
8. Then just paint!!
