The Lincoln, RI police department are sporting facial hair for the first time to support a local charity!
The donations from the officers support the 5th annual Home Base No Shave campaign by the Red Sox Foundation and Mass. General Hospital. This campaign helps veterans and their families impacted by PTSD and other wounds veterans carry from their time serving.
The officers donated $50, that is matched by the police union Local 435. There is normally a restriction on facial hair for the officers.
For the female officers, they are allowed to paint their nails or wear their hair in a braid with their $50 donation.
The facial hair encourages conversation and breaks stigmas associated with the wounds veterans carry home with them.
On December 4, Lincoln PD and other participating first responders from the New England area will attend a shave-off event at Fenway Park.
According to the Valley Breeze, Lincoln has raised upwards of $1,300 as of November 13th.
