The Great Flood of 2010 - Warwick
8/20/2019 (Permalink)
Remember that time almost 10 years ago when Rhode Island was literally under water? The floods of 2010 happened in March and early April, covering all of Warwick and Rhode Island. The Warwick Mall was submerged in 2 feet of water. Interstate 95 in Cranston was blocked off as well as the airport connecting routes, so this caused major issues for Rhode Islanders especially those on the road. So many businesses suffered. Our team of certified technicians were at the scene with other SERVPRO franchises to mitigate the severe damage inside the building. The floods were caused by excessive rainfall.
Key lesson - Flooding can happen anywhere and everywhere, not just in coastal communities like Narragansett or Newport.
The Pawcutuck River in Westerly didn't see severe flooding like this since 1938. Water levels did not recede in the second week of April. Sadly, a police officer died due to their car hydroplaning. The damage was so severe that Rhode Island communities were included in FEMA's Disaster Program, and $ 79 Million was given to homeowners and business owners to assist in the disaster.
