Water damage during the fall
Fall means apple cider, leaves changing, brisk air, apple picking, and sweater weather! Although we're excited for the change of seasons, as a homeowner there are some things you should check off your list (before) this fall season.
Gutters:
Now that we're entering into the cooler months of the year, we're going to see more rain. With rain comes leaves falling. Leaves can (and will) get into your gutters and downspouts. They can get clogged if you don't clean them regularly.
If the downspout or gutters are clogged, major water damage can happen inside your Albion home.
Hurricane Season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, so we're in the midst of it. This hurricane season has already been record breaking, being the first season with 9 storms formed before August, and 13 before September!
Preparing your home for storm/water damage very important to prevent damage! Cut back any trees and shrubs, put away any outdoor furniture, ensure your roof is in good condition, before any major storms. (Your roof should be inspected twice a year)
Pipes
Pipes are something that you can easily just look over. Getting them checked and keeping an eye on them for any signs of cracks or leaks is very important to the maintenance of your home! If you do catch a leak early, you'll be able to prevent further damage and any in the future.
Gaps
Seal any gaps. Gaps can be a roadway for rodents and insects. As the weather gets colder, animals like mice are trying to warm up, too, and your Albion home looks like just the place for them if there's a way in.
By taking these simple maintenance tips, you can prevent water damage in your Albion, RI home!
